Apple lets each developer account register up to 100 devices per product family, per membership year for development and ad hoc testing.
What counts
The limit applies separately to each product family:
- iPhone
- iPad
- iPod touch
- Apple Watch
- Apple TV
- Mac
- Apple Vision Pro
So you can have 100 iPhones and 100 iPads at the same time. TestFlight testers don't count toward it.
Removing a device doesn't give the slot back
During the year, you can disable a device, but Apple says this won't increase the number of devices available. A registered device keeps using its slot until your membership year ends.
Resetting at renewal
At the start of each membership year, the first time an Account Holder, Admin or App Manager signs in to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, Apple asks whether to:
- Remove specific devices.
- Remove all devices, restoring 100 per product family.
- Continue without removing any.
If your membership expires, you can download the device list 30 days before. Devices are removed 180 days after expiry.
How to make 100 go further
- Register only devices that will really test, not every iPhone that asks. BuildFerry's share links only register an iPhone after you approve it.
- Keep a count. BuildFerry shows how many iPhone slots you've used, from Apple's own numbers, before you approve the next one.
- Clear unused devices at renewal.
- Use TestFlight for big public betas, where the limit is 10,000 external testers.
Questions
Can I increase the Apple device limit beyond 100?
No. It's fixed at 100 per product family, per membership year, for each Apple Developer account.
Does deleting a device free up a slot?
Not until your membership renews. Removed and disabled devices keep counting until the new membership year, when you can clear them.
Do TestFlight testers count toward the 100 devices?
No. The limit only applies to devices registered for development and ad hoc distribution.
